I have never ever been a reader until I wanted to improve myself. During this quarantine I just needed to turn off the media! I didn't want to waste this time so I decided to focus on myself! These are the best books I found during this lock down.

The first books I picked up to read on my own were the Harry Potter series! The second is the Bible which is now something I read daily! Other than that if it wasn’t required in school then it wasn’t a priority for me.

Most of my life I have struggled with what is between my two ears. I have let my thoughts defeat me! Personal development was so foreign to me. I couldn’t wrap my head around how reading books could really change my life. But I knew if I was going to grow myself then I would have to work on me and my thoughts. So I bought my first self development....audiobook!! Haha yes!! I told you I’m not a reader! I actually purchased a subscription for Amazons audiobooks.

So this might not be anyone else’s top 5 but they are mine! They are the 5 that had the biggest impact on me to start to change the way I look at myself and my life.

The first book and where I recommend you start is

1. You Are a Badass by Jen Sincere

This book is really sassy and a lot of fun! It made for the perfect first book! There was no daunting task of what to do or a bunch of things I didn’t understand. I felt like a true badass after listening to this book! In a humorous approach she talks about life and the law of attraction. Basically you are what you think! It sparked the inner childhood thought that I can do anything! If you need a good pick me up and a reminder how much courage you really have then I highly suggest this book for you!! She has written many other greats like You Are a Badass at Making Money and . and You Are a Badass Everyday. I recommend both of these after you have finished the first one.

2. Daring Greatly by Brené Brown

I would be doing you a huge disservice if I didn’t have this book on my list! Dr. Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability. She dispels the widely accepted myth that vulnerability is a weakness. She argues that vulnerability is a strength, and when we shut ourselves off from revealing who we truly are we can grow distance from the things that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Dive in and connect with who you are.

3. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson

So this is definitely one of my favorites. It’s an easy read! This book tells you the facts straight up and how you can truly be successful in life by working hard! He lays it out in an enjoyable and clear way and shows you in an understandable way how to get anything you want in life if you work for it! He dives into keys about consistency and doing little sections daily for a big reward!

4. Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 by John C. Maxwell

Really any book by John C. Maxwell should be on this list but for the sake of this post I chose my favorite. This book shows methods on how to serve with a servants heart! You know, the way Jesus did! He was the greatest leader and seriously the best networking pro I know! I mean the man started with 12 followers and now over two thousand years later its in the billions! Sorry for the rant...back to the book! This is revised from his original where he updated the book after years of learning and failing forward. He gives the basic principles on leading a team of people!

5. Ask and It Is Given by Esther Hicks

Ok so I picked this book up a few years ago and read the first few pages and put it down and thought this is so weird. Something called me back to the book and so glad it did! Still not gonna lie the first chapter or two still has me questioning some things. Not as if the whole book doesn’t do that already! This is a longer read but so worth the finish! Just bare with me when you read this book but by the end you will be a new person! This is a set by step guide...seriously step by step into law of attraction. If you believe in God as I do, you may not understand this book until the biblical principals are applied to the steps. Like Ask and you shall receive! Either way the steps will have you living a much more positive life if you do them!

6. The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield is one of the most popular self-help book writers in the world. Author of Chicken Soup for the Soul which has been inspiring people for years. In The Success Principles you will get over 65 life transforming methods to improve your life. If you are looking to read just one book to get the most out of it, then it would be this one! If you are like me and have read more than ten self development books then you might find this more of a refresher or versions of rehashed ideas. These are repeated for the fact that they work and are proven time after time.

7. Outliners The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell

This book takes a scientific approach at what it really takes to become successful in life. Out of the seven books on my list this one is a bit different as it does not give a specific list of ideas you need to do to achieve success. It looks as success as, it is not based on luck, attitude or even skill. It looks at the time that we put into our skills. It is based on the idea that the more time someone applies to achieving a skill the more likely they are to succeed. I loved this book because it is totally different then most of the other self help books out there. It has many interesting stories about real life events. It was a very pleasant change up.

Again yall! These are my top seven self development books for selfgrowth! I’m no guru or self proclaimed pro, just your typical girl from Texas!
